Fashion, art, and sunsets at sea for Miami's Art Basel 2024

Stories | December 11th, 2024

When it comes to parties, Miami stands out in a lane of its own. Add fashion, art, and a floating venue, you’ve got yourself a recipe for a unique fashion show – à la Miami. This is exactly what the team at Art Hearts Fashion did by using The Vessel, an interesting venue concept that is quickly becoming the talk of the town.

Not your average runway

Aptly named “The Vessel“, it is not just … well a vessel. It’s the brain-child of naval architect Sebastian Phillips, who saw a brimming opportunity in Miami’s hospitality industry. It is a floating venue unlike any of the other known commercial ones, offering the sea as the platform for its client’s imagination to run outside of the norm.

Art met fashion

Art Basel bustles with so much to see, I enjoyed the private and exclusive nature of this event, seeing that it was in the middle of the ocean. While I am far from versed in the world of fashion, I think I know enough to spot those that stand out. And stand out they did. Set against the Miami night sky, the evening spotlighted collections by Maribel Julcahuanca, Victor Mudhe, and Atelier Dumebi, whose designs brought quite diverse, cutting-edge styles to life.

Hey, thanks for looking.

Now, while this does not look like a wow-inducing photograph, just like many art pieces, I maintain that it is much more impressive seeing it in person. But, since it is in a private collection, one can see it printed and nested amongst its fellow sculptures. To get in some of this action, pick yourself a copy of “Woods Davy, They Are What They Do” by 5 Continents, a monograph that is a comprehensive survey of Davy’s work from 1978 to 2023, with an introduction by Suzanne Muchnic, an essay by Shana Nys Dambrot, comments by the artist, and a conversation with Craig Krull.
