In the master's absence [Fine Art Photography]

Miami, Florida, USA | August 29th, 2021

When Abby proposed to pose for my work which has been heavily based on renaissance lighting, the initial idea was to reference Diego Velázquez’s “Venus Del Espejo”. It was going to be a modern take on vanity. But as the time of the shoot approached, the 1987 romantic fantasy movie “Mannequin” flashed in my thoughts. It made me wonder about the rather cynical tone the initial concept would boast. So I changed it slightly to something much more fun, much more based on my boyish fantasies. I thought “what if every time Greek, Roman and Italian sculptors in antiquity left their studio for the day, the sculptures came alive and were acting naughty in the master’s absence”?

Thanks for looking.
