Dance For Unity
In 2015, I went to China on a job assignment which entailed partaking in the production of a belly dance festival through digital photography. The luxurious Kery Hotel in Pudong hosted the festival. Now the Chinese are rather reserved and belly dancing is quite an expressive art form which made it very interesting.
I had never witnessed a dance festival, let alone belly dancing. Many of my responsibilities were really at the design and pre-production level, so I got to assist one of our main photographers. During the show, I found a pretty sweet spot at the foot of the main stage which allowed me to get some pretty interesting shots. At the time, I was somewhat of a rookie in photography and I only had my Nikon D7000 with a 50mm lens. So, I challenged myself and made the best of it. Hell, I had front row seats.
The entire show was nothing short of amazing. It was energetic and vibrant. The movements were charming, almost hypnotizing. I think I shot over 2000 frames, but here are some of the most memorable ones.
